Honeyrock is a camp located in Three Lakes, Wi, not far from where I grew up. It is the northern campus of Wheaton College. My mom has worked at Honeyrock in the kitchen for years. I never went to camp there, but I guess you could say that I was a camp kid. I was always hanging around and helping my mom in kitchen, back when all of those insurance rules didn't apply. It is quite the happenin' place in the middle of nowhere. I met people from all over the world through camp.
This past week, I went home to help and serve in the kitchen. It was great to be back and make some new friends. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I was there. It was such a good atmosphere to grow up around. A week in the kitchen is hard, constant work. The kitchen is never still. We fed 200 last week and during the summer they will feed 2 shifts of 250 people for each meal. That is the norm. Crazy, but good.
I was able to reflect on a lot of things this past week. God has been preparing me for Camp Daniel since I was a little girl. Just by hanging around HoneyRock, I learned so much about camp, ministry, and serving Jesus. I guess I am walking testimony of a camp kid, and only good things come out of that.
At HoneyRock, they have devos every morning after breakfast. Everything stops, even in the kitchen. There is special spot where everyone meets outside. We take a few minutes to start the day off right, with Jesus. There is always a crazy rush after a meal to wash the dishes, and every day we would stop in the middle of that for devos. It was such a clear picture for me, something that I needed. On the last morning I was there, I came into devos late and I only heard the last few minutes, but it was just what I needed. Funny how that works. The man leading devos said that we will be faced with many things this summer, and we will fall short. Wow. That is all too true for me. I think back to last summer and all of the times I fell short, especially in my interactions with people. This summer, I want to do better. I can only do that with Jesus.
All in all, it was a great week to put my heart and mind into camp mode. Getting me ready for a summer of hard work, loving people, and serving Jesus.
